Research Projects

The Following Research Projects are currently underway:

  • Mid-Atlantic Cicada Database (accumulating every known literature record, museum specimen and field record for all periodical and annual cicada species occurring in the Mid-Atlantic area)
  • DAILY CICADA CALL LOG (for the past 8 years, recording of any cicada species calling is conducted 4 times a day:, once in the morning , at noon, at mid-afternoon and at dusk. These recordings have been made from June 1st to October 15 every year along with the time, temperature and location and are archived as .wav files)
  • Mid-Atlantic Cicada Distribution Map Project (based on records housed in the Mid-Atlantic Cicada Database, distribution maps will be created for each species occurring in the area and will eventually be housed on this website.
  • Field Survey for Brood XIV records in the Mid-Atlantic (2008)
  • Field Survey and range documentation of the occurrence of Brood XIX in Maryland and Virginia (2011)
  • Field Survey and range documentation of the occurrence of Brood I in Virginia and West Virginia (2012)
  • Field Survey and range documentation of the occurrence of Brood II in CT, NY, PA, NJ, MD, VA and NC (2013)
  • Field Survey and range documentation of the occurrence of Brood V in Pa, WV, VA and MD (2016)
