There are 6 species of periodical cicadas that occur in the Mid-Atlantic States. The fourth newly described 13 year species, M. neotredecim is confined to the mid-west. Three species belong to the 17 year cicada broods, while the other three sibling species are found in the 13 year cicada broods.
